To get to Makrigialos from the airport or the port of Heraklion, you have to drive to Agios Nikolaos, then towards Ierapetra and thence Makrigialos. The distance is 125 km and will take about two hours to reach.
If you prefer to travel by bus, the bus station is not too far from the airport and the port (2 minutes drive). The second and more advantageous option to access the Makrygialos, both in terms of cost and time, is to fly via Athens directly to Sitia airport and from there drive to Makrigialos. The distance Sitia - Makrigialos is about 35 km.
